DESCRIPTION: N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine acts on polynucleotides in neutral aqueous solution, methylating guanine (G) in the 7-position (7-meG), and, to a much lesser extent, adenine. In 67% dimethylformamide the effect on the purines decreased, and what seems to be 3-methyl-cytosine (3-meC) appeared.

N methyl-N’-nitro-N nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) is a potent local direct-acting carcinogen that induces tumors at the site of administration.
